Dr. Roto’s Daily Prescription 9/20: Jerome Ford or Kareem Hunt in Fantasy Football?

With Nick Chubb out for the season and Kareem Hunt returning to Cleveland to join Jerome Ford, Dr. Roto gives his take on the Browns’ backfield.

With Nick Chubb being placed on season-ending IR, the Cleveland Browns went out and signed former Browns running back Kareem Hunt to a one-year contract.

Let’s take a closer look at what this means for the Browns’ backfield. I would not overrate Hunt’s return to the team. If the Browns really wanted him, they would have signed him in the offseason. I have it on good authority from some Browns insiders that they really like Jerome Ford, and that’s why they never went after Hunt when many people thought that they would in the offseason.

Here’s my assumption moving forward: If the Browns have 30 touches in the backfield, they’re going to give Ford about 18 of those touches and Hunt 12. Ford showed so much against the Steelers, and I think that is the tip of the iceberg for him. Hunt’s value is that he knows the offense, can catch passes out of the backfield, and can score TDs in short-yardage situations.

For those of you who still have FAAB waivers tonight, I think Ford is worth about $350 to $400 (assuming that you have a $1,000 budget). If Hunt is available on your waivers, I would probably bid $180 to $200.
