This NFL offseason saw a number of large trades and free agency signings. Perhaps two of the most surprising trades this off-season featured superstar wide receivers, with Davante Adams and Tyreek Hill both being traded to new teams while in the prime of their careers. This article will analyze both receivers' new teams and overall situations as well as provide an idea of what to expect (and who to target) from each in fantasy football this season.

Davante Adams 2022 Fantasy Football Outlook

In a shocking trade this offseason, the Green Bay Packers sent their franchise wide receiver Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders for a package of draft picks. Throughout his career for the Packers Adams produced extremely impressive numbers, with five seasons of 10 plus touchdowns and three 1,300 plus yard seasons. Adams was also one of the most targeted receivers in the league in Green Bay, where he drew over 120 targets in each season since 2016.

In Las Vegas Adams gets to reunite with his former college quarterback Derek Carr, who is not Aaron Rodgers but is still a very solid NFL quarterback. However, unlike in Green Bay, Adams will face significant competition for targets in Las Vegas. The Raiders already have solid pieces like tight end Darren Waller and wide receiver Hunter Renfrow, who will earn their fair share of targets. Given the offensive structure in Las Vegas, it would not be surprising to see Adams receive less volume in the passing game which would directly affect his fantasy value.

Tyreek Hill 2022 Fantasy Football Outlook

Like Davante Adams, Tyreek Hill was traded this offseason, in his case from the Kansas City Chiefs to the Miami Dolphins in a blockbuster move. With Kansas City, Hill emerged as one of the best wide receivers in the NFL, and was able to showcase the game-breaking speed that makes him such a threat in the passing game. Hill has also produced elite numbers, as four of his last five seasons have been 1,100 plus yard receiving seasons.

With the Dolphins, Hill faces a downgrade in quarterback play. While quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is still developing, it would be unfair to expect him to be a Patrick Mahomes-level player this season. Given that Hill is playing with a younger and more inexperienced quarterback, it would not be surprising to see his production dip in his first season in Miami. The Dolphins also have fellow wide receiver Jaylen Waddle and tight end Mike Gesicki to feature in the passing game as well. Given Hill’s past production (not to mention the size of his new contract) it can be expected that he will be targeted often in the Dolphin's offense. Still, given the downgrade in quarterback play and competition for targets, Hill will likely have his production drop a bit from what fantasy players are used to seeing from him.

Bottom Line: Should you draft Davante Adams or Tyreek Hill?

Davante Adams and Tyreek Hill were both shockingly traded away to new teams this offseason, and each has many questions about their use in their new offense. However, the better target of these two elite wide receivers for 2022 is Davante Adams. Adams has the edge thanks to his familiarity and chemistry with his quarterback Derek Carr, who is also better than Tyreek Hill’s quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. However, both receivers are extremely talented and you really cannot go wrong drafting either of them as they will be the focal points of the passing game for each of their teams. Both Adams and Hill should be valued as WR1s for 2022 and it would not be surprising to see both of them have over 1,000 yards receiving and double-digit touchdowns in their first seasons with their new teams.
