The MLB Injury Report will help you strategize in your fantasy baseball leagues when you place free-agent bids and waiver claims as well as make trades. Use my glossary as a reference throughout the season.
SS Xander Bogaerts, Boston Red Sox
Tested positive for COVID-19
My take: As most states are seeing a surge in Covid cases due to the Delta variant, this will become a major problem for MLB. As for Bogaerts, he will be out for at least 10 days.
SP Kenta Maeda, Minnesota Twins
Underwent Tommy John surgery
My take: See last week's column. Maeda will most likely be out all of the 2022 season.
1B Rhys Hoskins, Philadelphia Phillies
Set undergo abdominal surgery
My take: See last week's column. Hoskins will undergo surgery to repair a tear in his lower abdomen. Should be ready for spring training 2022.
SS Tim Anderson, Chicago White Sox
Placed on IL with a left hamstring strain
My take: A solid contributor at shortstop with 14 homers and 17 stolen bases, Anderson has tried to rest for five games with no improvement. He may need a full two weeks on the IL to rest and heal.
SP Zack Greinke, Houston Astros
Placed on COVID-19 injured list
My take: Greinke will miss his next start and reportedly tested positive for COVID-19.
SP Alex Wood, San Francisco Giants
Placed on COVID-19 injured list
RP Matt Barnes, Boston Red Sox
Placed on COVID-19 injured list
My take: Not sure what to say, but we are experiencing an uptick in Covid cases in the US. I am seeing pediatric patients with Covid on a daily basis in my office. Perhaps baseball should consider a mask mandate for players inside the clubhouse locker room.
