Dr. Roto’s Daily Prescription 8/29: Avoid These Two Teams in Fantasy Football

Dr. Roto explains why he is entirely out on these two formerly productive teams for 2023 fantasy football.

Mayday! Mayday!

There are two teams that I want virtually nothing to do with in fantasy this season. These teams are the Arizona Cardinals and the Los Angeles Rams.

On Monday, the Cardinals placed QB Kyler Murray on the PUP list and cut veteran backup QB Colt McCoy. The team is deciding between journeyman Joshua Dobbs and rookie Clayton Tune as their starter. Neither really gives the team a chance to win, and it’s quite obvious that the team is instead trying to be a winner in the Caleb Williams sweepstakes come 2024. I doubt that Murray will suit up again for the team, as the Cardinals will probably try to trade him before the trade deadline if possible. Fantasy-wise I have little to no interest in James Conner, even if he gets 20 touches per game. I see him scoring only four or five times this season, so his touches feel empty. The only player I have some minor interest in is rookie WR Michael Wilson. Wilson might start the year slowly, but the coaching staff loves him, and there is a good possibility that he gets more playing time in the second half of the season.

I am also completely down on the Rams. There was a report surfacing on Monday saying that QB Matthew Stafford has zero connection with many of his younger teammates and is still struggling to know some of their names. The Rams mortgaged their entire future for their Super Bowl win, and it feels like cleaning house might be in order. I can see a pathway for Cooper Kupp to get all the targets he can handle, and maybe some success for Tyler Higbee too, but outside of those two, this team is a complete mess.
